    Skins Fans: Where are you?

    Gentlemen,
I logged on today expecting immediate reactions to the Redskins new QB. Unfortunately I had no expectations that Blanco would sharpen up his computer skills and comment. I also went to Harris’ blog, eager for a breaking reaction and was greeted with album covers from August (grrrr!). So Skins fans, what are your thoughts?

Good question Lee! I think the signing of McNabb is a sign that the Skins think they can compete this year. I’m still shocked the Eagles gave him up to a division rival for so little. I heard rumors the Raiders had offered their star CB Asomugha, is this founded?

Hannah. The jury is still out on my reaction. I’m torn. Part of me loves it because McNabb will be our quaterback. Part of me thinks he will be like Warner was in Arizona. He still has lots of great years ahead of him. Part of me is incredibly nervous because the Skins always go out and get washed up talent instead of drafting. I’m just not sure, friend.

Think of it this way though Rawls. There’s a good chance Claussen would have ended up being the Skins first round pick. So at worst now you have McNabb and a high first round pick instead of Claussen and a second round pick. I’d take it. Also I agree that it was a really weird move by the eagles.

I love the move… a 2nd rounder and either a 3 or 4 next year for McNabb? I think it’s a great deal and makes the Redskins immediate contenders, IF they can improve their offensive line. I would really hope they use that first round pick to grab an offensive tackle. They need one desperately, especially since McNabb doesn’t move as well as he used to. They can either grab a QB later in the draft or grab one in the first round next year, which would still leave them at least a year with McNabb at the helm while they groom the young guy.

I wouldn’t get too worried about losing the draft picks… sure, there are some good players in the 2nd round, but not as many as you’d think. Exhibit A, the Browns’ 2nd round picks from last year were Mohammed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie, and David Veikune, all of whom were expected to go in the 2nd round. Massaquoi looks like the only one who will contribute going forward. The other two look like busts. Anyway, I would be more concerned about losing the draft picks if the Redskins were in “rebuilding mode” but they’re not. They have too many veterans to be rebuilding.

    I’ll Jump in on This

I love this blog. I read it often and sometimes just get too lazy to throw my 2 cents in, a la David Harris. Does anyone else still check his blog only to discover that he still hasn’t updated? Its a disappointment I seem to face bi-weekly.
Well quick update on me, for folks who don’t know or realize, I’m at Penn State still pursuing the PhD in political science. I really feel like everything is coming together. State College is starting to feel like home, I’m starting to actually feel like a real scholar who can get one of these PhD things, I’m starting to go really deep with guys, and I’m starting to find a ministry I can pour into (LT once again, woot woot!).

Two quick tidbits that are exciting at least to me:
    1. I’m getting really excited about research on polarization in the American electorate. Its a big but rather new debate in the field and I’m working really hard to try to get a word (and some numbers) in. Its just encouraging that I finally have gotten past just writing term papers that are going nowhere and am potentially becoming an “expert” in something. And publishing is a huge deal for the future job market. Also, if you’re a teacher I’m going to pressure you to put it on your syllabus. You don’t have to actually read it or use it, I just want to know that somebody out there in theory asked people to read it 🙂

If this fails I transfer to Texas or Southern Cal and begin a manuscript on going to schools with major football programs in different conferences.

    2. I started a Bible study this semester with 4 amazing guys: Brad (area YL director), Daniel (my roommate and proud Tech grad), Mark (on staff with Cru), and Sam (his wife is in my grad program and he works in the area). In 2 meetings we’ve gotten to be really open and honest with one another and we’re getting really pumped about spurring one another on. Its real exciting because I haven’t really connected with a group of guys my age and in my stage of life in a few years now, so its been incredibly encouraging.

Also, besides having an overrated football team, State College is a fantastic little town and all are welcome to come up for a visit!

Also also, my love for uniforms and Super Bowls has not waned. I’ve been studying up on the latest SB trivia. If you have any questions come to me. The Colts will be wearing their blue jerseys (not since SB III have they worn them). They are 0-1 in blue jerseys, 2-0 in white jerseys (SB V and XLI. Daring choice!

    It Only Gets Better

    Ian,
That video was amazing! My cat-like curiosity led me to discover more clips from this movie. This clip shows you just what Rowdy Roddy Piper sees when he looks through those glasses. It also shows you how to deliver a winning line.

    Predictions

So I’ve heard rumors that Virginia Tech is playing in an important game this weekend.  I was wondering what you all thought.  I’m going to be an optimist and say Tech gets a 20-14 win off of incredible debuts by Wilson and Williams and the play of a defensive line that gets into McElroy’s head early.  What do you guys think?

I wouldn’t mind this result either.

Lee, I love reading that article and reading names like Al Clark and Shyrone Stith. It makes me feel warm inside.

I’m headed down to see this game and I couldn’t be more excited. I really haven’t thought too much about what the outcome is going to be. I just really hope that our offense shows some pep and that they don’t look as flat as they have on opening games of the past few years. You’re right that Wilson and Williams have incredible potential to do well. As does all of our offense. We’ll see if they’re game ready for tomorrow night. Lee, I’m going to go 23-20. Our field goal kicker was phenomenal in the pre-season, so let’s say he hits three tomorrow night, Wilson runs one in, and Tyrod throws one to Greg Boone.

    Cowboy Curtis

    Greetings gentlemen,

It’s been a while since I posted but I feel like I’ve provided a doozy.  This clip is full of things we all will love.  Pee Wee’s Playhouse, the word of the day, fake guitar playing and the start of Lawrence Fishburne’s career.  Ok he may not be the next Deniro or Pacino or Pinkett-Smith; but I think he’s pretty special.

    Heading North

    Gentlemen,

At this time on Friday morning I will be leaving the Yellowhammer State and moving to the Keystone State.  I figured I’d post one last time before the move since I doubt blogging will be a priority over the next couple of days.  I posted a few pics that entertain me as well as a link to an amazing interview I had with Pat on his blog.  http://tiny.cc/23AeP (I use tinyurl because I’m hip!).

As a man who loves uniforms and really loves helmets, I never knew if a helmet could be worn in such a fashionable and warm way. Success!

Here's a bunch of the Men of Willard celebrating Ian's wedding. I remember loving the songs selected, the bluegrass band, and the cobbler. I also throught the bride and groom were cool.

This was my first camp trip, we got all of the kids matching hats and old school jerseys. We were "The Coaches" and after each play we would all correct one anothers form. I feel like we have some guys here who probably have great camp photos and/or program photos. Lets seem them!

I love a smaller version of that “helmet” on a baby. I hate it on a full-grown adult. I loathe it, really.

I may have sleeves, but I look pretty good…

You can call me a narcissist, but I’m a beautiful white man that needs to have lots of face time on this blog.  I posted a few pics from Harris’s wedding where instead of looking tough I looked righteous and trustworthy.  I could have sold you anything that weekend.  Also, I’d like to propose that we find and post a ridiculous picture of ourselves from our childhood.  I’m going to need a couple of weeks to rassle one up, but I feel like we could get a lot of commentary going from those.  I know that I also wore lots of ridiculous t-shirts that effectively dated me (Alf, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. etc.)

I was caught in the act of looking really good at Harris's wedding. I have a look that says, "let me just put my arm around you and you tell me what's on your heart", or "which knive set would you like to purchase?". Or possibly its just a soft, subtle, muted cry of "please date me." I've never had more action on eHarmony.

Apparently Pat did not see this photo when picking a heathen to officiate his wedding.

    Some more photos

James mentioned a cat wearing a lime hat in a previous post.  Fortunately I hung onto that one.  I also posted possibly the worst photoshopped (paint) photo one will ever see of me going first in the draft.  Its fitting considering I’m on the clock for the 2009 fantasy draft.

I remember this pic making a lot of IM profiles my last year. That was the year we destroyed them at home in a night game.

Oh and I think someone with photoshopping skills needs to add Ian to our group picture, and I think he should be laying on the ground in front of us brushing his teeth. You know what to do.
